Colfax is nestled in a small river valley that cuts through the Palouse farmland. It has always been one of the main farming communities of this area. The buildings on its main street are worth a walking tour. Food and full automobile services are available here. Lodging is a bit limited. It would be best to call ahead. The offices for the Port of Whitman County are located in Colfax though the Port is 50 miles to the south. Whitman County is one of the largest in the region, and one of the richest farming areas in the country.
